With the aim of creating shared value and contributing to the conservation of the environment, Enel Generación Costanera delivered some 40 tons of wood to educational institutions and cooperatives to be used as raw material in their essential activities.
The plant annually collects a high volume of wood for packaging, which is linked to the purchase of spare parts. Generally, these equipment are large in size and are packed in pallets or crates, which have straps to protect them during transportation.
That is why Costanera recycles all this disused material and periodically delivers it to groups or institutions for social purposes.
Only in 2020 it delivered 20 tons to 6 different institutions, while so far in 2021 it delivered a similar number, which was allocated to 6 more institutions.
In environmental terms, this recycling action avoids the felling of 246 trees and contributes to the conservation of the ecosystem.
The social impact of this initiative is high, since beyond the fact that it is aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 4 related to education, and SDG 8, linked to economic development, it contributes to social organizations using recycled raw materials. that later commercialize and generate value for its members.
This is the case of the Lilikelen and La Huella cooperatives, which were created in mental health hospitals, where their patients were previously trained to generate value through productive work.
