Aware of the great geothermal potential of the Andes Mountains, the National Government will promote initiatives and projects of this type of clean energy, within the framework of the transformation of the energy matrix that began in 2017.
This decision opens great possibilities to different corporations interested in participating in the next rounds of the RenovAR program with ambitious geothermal projects and at the same time adds a new source of clean energy to our portfolio, which already has numerous wind and solar projects.
In our mountains (known as Los Andes) there are more than 300 points of geothermal interest, distributed in the provinces of Salta, Tucumán, Catamarca, Jujuy, La Rioja, Mendoza, Neuquén and San Juan, but only in four of them electricity can be generated, thanks to the high underground temperatures (above 150 ° C).
Currently, there are 4 projects of high feasibility of development: Los Despoblados, in San Juan; Copahue Volcano, in Neuquén; Tuzgle volcano, in Jujuy, and Falla Tocomar, in Salta.
The authorities of the Ministry of Energy and Mining of the Nation estimate that some 1,600 MW of geothermal energy could be developed.
