At Enel, we help companies and organizations combat the climate emergency and reduce their carbon footprint by offering international renewable energy certificates issued in Argentina (IRECs) and the world.
The IRECS allows the attributes of renewable energy to be accredited and thus meet the goals assumed by companies before the RE 100 Initiative or the CDP, Carbon Disclosure Project, among others.
Between Enel Trading Argentina and Enel Generación El Chocón, we offer our clients the possibility of having IRECS certificates both in Argentina and internationally.
At Enel Trading Argentina we also offer professional advice to associate the production of any renewable generation product, service, or project with a fully auditable international standard that provides credibility in the eyes of the responsible consumer.
What are IRECs needed for?
Companies around the world need to endorse claims about their energy use, such as: “My factory runs on 100% renewable energy”, “Our products are made with 100% wind power”, “Our electricity use generates zero emissions”, and “Our carbon footprint is zero”, “I contribute to the development of REs”.
It is impossible to make these reliable claims without a certification mechanism because electricity is not a tangible product that can be packaged and shipped from producer to consumer. If a generator injects an amount of electrical energy at one point in the network and in another place, a consumer takes the same amount of energy, there is no way to track those electrons.
Through the use of IRECs energy attribute certificates, end users can make claims about their energy use. It is a system that registers all the energy injected as unique units (MWh). These only reserved units can be traded independently of the underlying electricity, and only the person or entity canceling it can claim the use of that specific MWh.
